The list provided below was put together by the forum member KingKongBanna, a player on the EU1 server. I pretty much agree with everything that is listed because it highlights a lot of EU history in a simple method I haven’t made a post on here in a while. Without further adue:

Note anything I’ve added personally will be highlighted in greenIt has been some nice months of smacktalking, exploiting mobs, ganking and epeening but nothing good lasts forever and it’s soon time for transfers. Since I only play forumfall nowadays I thought it would be fun to see the publics view on different matters.

This is a thread of fame and shame with different categories and it’s up to you guys to nominate. Follow my example so that we can determine once and for all who is the biggest/worst/most “what” in the history of EU1. Take it with a grain of salt and try and keep it somewhat civil. The threads purpose is mostly to reminiss in a fun way about the history of EU. An explanation or motivation if you can be arsed would be nice aswell.

* Worst whiner: Ginger Magician
Every week this guy starts a new thread after suffering an embarrassing defeat. There is always something bothering this poor man. His promises of letting his subscription die has unfortunately not been fulfilled.

* Biggest forumtroll: Ztyx
This guy has got you all fooled. He makes colorfull posts and DF songs while smooking salvia and my god is he laughing his ass off when people take him seriously.

* Biggest propagandist: Gluttony SDS
His speeches would convert Hitler to judaism. As a typical goon he won more battles on the forums then he did ingame. More importantly his forumfall wins also made him win battles ingame.

* Most overrated player: Zxyzz
Ossium claimed months ago that Zxyzz was one of his best men. Poor fella got destroyed as soon as magic backshots was nerfed. On top of that he can’t lead a clan either. Whats left is a nice character that would achieve just as much in the hands of a random freehold recruit.

* Biggest fail (clan): HARM
Death alliance made them go back to whatever tabb and spam MMO they came from within weeks from launch.

* Best scammers: AC
Their bankheists will not soon be forgotten. Although stealing from hyperion is like stealing candy from a baby it was still hilarious every time they did it.

* Biggest hype: Afghans
Dont get me wrong afghans had several amazing players and tbh Im not talking about them. Im talking about the gimps that grinded magic up to insane levels, bragged about winning outnumbered and then quit the game when other people got magic. Shame on you for making us believe you where good.

* Worst exploiters: TM
Duping, battlespikes, rigorsomething and mountkicking these guys have done it all. I don’t blame them though. I don’t expect people to compete fairly when the game is as exploitable as morrowind.

* Biggest smacktalker: Cetra
It almost became a pvp event in itself to allways combat what he said no matter if I agreed. His ego burns so strong that it competes with the sun. I kinda miss him tbh.

* Best pvper: Helba
A hard pick but if I have to choose one person it would be this guy. He has beaten overrated mages with multiple schools at 100 with his arrows and polearm.

* Best clan: All Kill All Skill
Not because we were the best but because those where the days.

* Best alliance small scale: Superfriends
I dont believe there is any alliance that could beat superfriends best 5/7/10 so nuff said.

* Best alliance large scale: SB
Not to be confused with GY. SB managed to win several sieges against larger alliances and it seems like they didn’t even had to try.

* Worst alliance: Stasis Alliance
They failed siege after siege and on top of that AV jewed them on some aswell by crashing the server. Fuck they where really bad.

* AVs biggest fail: First magic patch
They upped the damage on magic and as soon as people got their hands on the upper tier the game was destroyed. GG assholes.

* Biggest PVE whore: Krankone
He practically lived in the middle dungeon back when I played.

* Best frapser: Ripper X
He made more commercial for AV than they did themselves. His fraps weren’t always amazing and entertaining but at least he was committed.

* Best individual scammer: Catch McCloud
This person single handily stole about 10 clan banks that I know of and ripped off the leader of Hyperion for 10k

* Most Helpful Clan/Alliance : SiN + Death/Carnivores
Their map is still widely used today, df.urme.com was a great addition for the game as whole (although it is tainted a lot by false data), they’ve collectively suggested great ways of improving the game, and have done in depth analysis of the cities in the game. Enough said

More may be added at the close of the EU pre-transfers Era

It can be said that power in Darkfall can be measured in Gold. The more gold one has the more powerful that player is. Of course, if the player with the gold isn’t any good at the game then they won’t be as powerful as someone who is, but with the ability to chain high level AoEs and nukes that isn’t much of a hurdle to pass. This brief guide will explain how to get gold.

Note: Pictures coming soon

Starting Out

There are several ways to farm easily; however, each method uses range attacks. The reason ranged attacks work the best is because certain mobs do not use range attacks themselves, others do very little damage with their ranged attacks, and each mob in the game has a specific area they can be in. By using ranged attacks, a player is able to use each of these details to his/her advantage. Secondly, if a player wishes to do a cost benefit analysis to maximize farming profits you’ll see the cheapest ranged method to farm with is archery. The reason archery is the cheapest way to farm mobs is because arrows are only one gold each, there are several mobs who drop arrows, and there are several mobs who drop rank 40 bows which are perfect for farming.

If you are just starting out, the aforementioned information can be used to plan how you develop your character. Since archery is the easiest play style to farm with, which will be discussed in greater detail below, you can begin to gather material and arrows to make things easier. For instance, the first mob in the game that every player can farm easily are goblins. The mob, Goblin Fighter, has a chance of dropping 3 arrows and can be killed using melee. While you are training your first two-handed weapon (rank zero or above) you can begin to stock pile arrows to farm and level archery with.

Leveling Archery

Archery is incredibly easy to level – Gab a ranked bow, arrows, and hit mobs. The problem is that archery is relatively weak at the beginning. As such, you won’t be able to turn a high profit, in terms of arrows and time used, until you are level 75 archery. The main problem people have when leveling archery is lack of arrows. There are mobs that drop arrows, but not enough of them to allow you to continuously farm. If you are wanting to use archery to farm mobs, then you need to buy bowyer, which allows you to make arrows at level one at 20 arrows for each iron bar and wood.

Once you have bought bowyer you’ll never really have to worry about your arrow supply unless you are lazy and don’t want to have a pile of resources in your bank. By making arrows, you will also be able to level vitality, strength, and wisdom so its a win-win anyways. Also, remember to buy Veteran Archer (lvl 25), Spirited Archer (lvl 75), and Sharp Shooter (lvl 75) when you are at the level to buy them.

Easy Mode Farming

Easy mode farming is what I like to call a couple of tactics, some say exploits, that allow players to farm easily with little chance of dieing to the mobs.

Perching: What many call standing on a ledge and using ranged attacks to kill mobs. It is also why people say the mob AI in this game is terrible. Basically all you have to do to perch farm is find stairs that lead up to a place that mobs can’t or won’t get to and shoot them from that location. Some of these location require that you launch to reach, or jumping over a blocked path. The main reason this method works is becuase mobs have two modes run and attack, and if they can’t attack you they still try.

Water Framing: Water farming uses the same concept that perching does, except with water. Mobs are programmed not to swim in water and you can use this to your advantage by shooting mobs as they come to shore and then diving to dodge attacks. In some rare cases, the mobs may only be able to use melee making them even easier to kill.

The primary problem with these two methods is that it takes a long time to farm with them. Although people say mobs are retarded, many mobs won’t just sit there and let you kill them. They will run away and most will use range attacks to try and kill you. I personally don’t use these methods when solo farming because it just takes too much time.

Terrain: There are several places in the game where you can use terrain to your advantage. I will not give you those locations, but they are easy to located. Sometimes its standing behind a railing, sometimes its jumping over a rock. Since mobs can’t jump or crouch to get around these objects you can hit them from those locations before they get to you and then jump out and make them come back around again.

Tether pulling: This method is my personal favorite because its relatively easy to use and allows you to regain mob agro easily. Basically, every mob in the game has a limit of advance where they will no longer chase you. If the mob has ranged attacks they will eventually stop trying to hit you as well. Once found you can start farming you can pull the mobs to their LOA, hit them from that distance, and regain agro and do it all over again.

Wroth While Mobs

The main problem people have when it comes to farming is that they don’t know the areas in the game that are actually worth the investment to farm, know them but don’t know how to farm them, or aren’t high enough to farm. Below are a few mobs that are worth farming and whats the easiest way to farm them. Most of the mobs can be found on either the SiN Map or DFAtlas. Furthermore, most mobs should be farmed in Bone or scale armor for maximum protection and the ability to fight other players should the need arise

Note: This list will be more flushed out in the future.

Deathless Mages -Most of the Deathless Mages spawns aren’t soloable and you’ll need a group of 4+ to farm. However, Nifelheim has a spawn were only two mages spawn. tethers method is best for that spawn, but if you are in a group just use group tactics and you’ll be fine.

Akathars - One of the easiest mobs in the game and as such they are worth farming primarily when still a newbie. However, they are easy to kill with melee at higher while wearing scale armor making them a good target to raise melee skill on while collecting a decent amount of regents.

Earth Elementals – These mobs are easiest to kill using the tether or perch method if you are using range, or melee if you can get them separated

Raven Standard Grunt/Veteran/Officer- These mobs are easiest to kill using the tether method. They drop arrows, which makes them a good candidate for farming while leveling with archery.

Sorry for the lack of updates. I had to put this project on hold while I got some real life issues resolved. Now that they are resolved, I’ll be back to posting on a simi-regular basis and in case you didn’t know I’ve been very active on the forums as of late. Anyways, the things you all can look forward to: Newbie gold farming guide or intro, an after transfers recap of the EU politics, an overview of the first major EU1 war after the launch of the NA server, and a critique on the mechanics of either debuff or buff spells. Once the next free content update goes live, Bannerfall will also have a detailed guide on how the various specialization options work, theory on to use them, and possible “OP” combinations.

In this issue of Tips and Tricks we’ll look at what it takes to level magic and what might be the best way to level magic.

Above you will see a flow chart on how to unlock the various schools of magic. As you can see, it takes Less magic of 50 and Greather magic of 50 to be able to unlock most schools of magic. I recommend that everyone levels Greather Magic to 50 regardless of play style because lesser magic and greater magic have the most utility skills that most players will use during their adventures. Its important to note that like all skills in the game, to level magic you have to be using at least a rank zero such as Mahirim Tribal Staff

rank zero staff

and not the starter or conscript staff. In addition to the staff requirement, most spells also require a reagent. A reagent is item in game that is consumed from casting a spell. The reagents in game and their respective prices from the Arcanist are: Mandrake 2 gold , Ash 6 gold , Bone 4 gold , Nacer 4 gold, Resin 4 gold, and Sulfur 4 gold. Of these reagents Mandrake, Sulfur, Resin can be harvest by herb gathering, logging, and mining respectively and all reagents are dropped by most caster monsters. Its best to start stock piling regents starting day 1 and never sell them if you plan on leveling magic at all, which you should, since all magic schools use all regent types (some more than others).

conscript/starter staff

Another important aspect of leveling magic is that self buffs, heal spells, and debuff appear, hard to confirm it either way, to level the schools of magic slower than spells that do damage. However, the trade off is that you can use those skills in relatively safety.

Leveling Lesser Magic (LM)

All magic schools take a long time to level if you don’t focus grind or have terrible aim, but lesser magic is special because it has Heal Self which works even if you are at full health. The spells that you need to level in LM are Manna Missile, Heal Self, Manna to Stamina, Stamina to Health, and Launch. Out of these spells Heal Self and Manna Missile are the only spells that don’t require a reagent. For this reason, these two spells tend to be the best to power level the school of Lesser Magic.

Greather Magic (GM)

Greather Magic has a few more options to level, but every spell requires a regent. If you took my advice and started stock piling regents on day one you should be able to level GM without much grind. The spells most people use to level Greather Magic are Heal Other (level 25) , Rend (level 1), Frality (level 1), and Unburden (level 10). An interesting note about Frailty and other debuff spells – since these spells do not do damage they do not activate NPC guard towers. As such, you can use defbuffs to level in relatively safety. Same for buffs and healing spells.

WitchCraft (WC), Spellchanting (SC), Necromancy (Necro), and Arcane

These spells are opposites in terms of utility. WC is used as primarily for debuffs and SC is used for primarily buffs and healing, while Necro and Arcane also have great damage spells. Like said above, the debuffs and buff skills can be used inside NPC cities to level. As far as I know, there isn’t a set way to level these schools since different people tend to use different buffs/debuffs. With that said, you aren’t currently limited in the amount of skills you can level because there is not a skill cap in Darkfall. Basically, level everything you want to.

Elemental Magic

Elemental magic is the tend to have the best damage spells and buffs/debuffs in the game with various degrees of usefulness. To level elemental magic quickly and effectively you should use the buff other spells and try to find an area where you can level the spells you intended to use for damage away from players.

I hope this brife guide gave you enough info on how to level your magic schools the best way possible without directly telling you what spells to use and where.

As promised in this article I am going to start sharing my dreams for a fantasy MMO. This may or may not be apparent, but these ideas are the product of decades of RPG and MMO experience and research and thought about their design. So without further ado, here is the first instalment in what I am calling The Dream Series.

This article will lay the groundwork for the articles to come. “The Givens” is a term borrowed from acting, it is the answers to the questions, “who, what, where, when and why” that give a foundation for an actor to build on when creating a character. In “The Dream Series” “The Givens” will be the foundational principles which I will build on with the ideas I will be sharing.

For me there are four “givens”, four foundational principles which form the basis for all the ideas which I will be sharing. The first is that the game design must take into account the way “real” gamers play MMO’s. The second is that the game design must make room for all kinds of players. The third “given” is that the game must create a dynamic environment which responds in a meaningful way to player actions. And the fourth “given” for me personally is that gamers should gain from playing the MMO something that affects their life in a positive way.

Real gamers have much in common with The Joker in “The Dark Knight”, they are agents of chaos. They come and they go. They set up businesses, or political entities, and sometimes they are as solid as a rock, and sometimes they abandon great enterprises without a word, and are never heard from again.

They advance in the game at different paces. Some progress in every way far faster than any developer would dream was possible, some plod along and seem to never get anywhere in game terms. Some play for a seemingly impossible number of hours for months at a stretch, then close their accounts and are never heard from again. Some will find an MMO they love and remain devoted to it for decades.

This is the way “real” gamers game. You can’t nail them down and say, I expect that the “average” gamer will play “x” number of hours per week, or will play the game for “x” number of months or years before moving on. There really is no such thing as an “average gamer”, that concept is a myth, no one is average. In order to rise above mediocrity, the design of an MMO needs to take this into account.

Twelve years after it was first released there are many that still point to Ultima Online as being the greatest MMO ever created. One of the reasons that many will point to explain it’s greatness is the diversity in it’s community. Ultima Online attracted all kinds of different players with vastly differing play styles.

There were meta gamers and pvp’rs, there were rp’rs, there were children, there were grandfathers and grandmothers, there were pve’rs, and there were collectors. There were socializers whose main idea of fun was to park themselves next to the main bank in Britain and watch all the comings and goings, and chat with friends, or make new ones. There were crafters, merchants, businessmen, rich professionals, and people who were spending their entire limited entertainment budget on the game.

Ultima Online appealed to all kinds of people, the list could be endless, and it was pure magic as a result. For an MMO to recapture that same kind of magic, to become a classic in the genre, the way Ultima Online is, for an MMO to have a vibrant, dynamic community, it must appeal to a great variety of people, with a great variety of interests and play styles.

Which leads to my last two “givens”, by far the most challenging and difficult game design objectives of the four, from a technical standpoint, objectives which have yet to be done well, in my opinion, in any MMO. The first of those two is the objective of a dynamic environment. I will likely devote an entire article to this one design objective, so I won’t go into it in much detail here, I will simply say that this objective should affect every aspect of game design, from warfare and politics, to crafting and the economy.

Some time ago I posted on Forumfall a list of the good things that can come from playing an MMO like Darkfall Online, however, if I were to design an MMO, I would want there to be one more. I would want players that play any game I design to actually learn something. I would want them to learn about real world economics from participating in the game economy. I would want them to learn about real world politics from participating in the political life of the game. I would want them to actually learn something about medieval crafting from crafting items in what is meant to be a medieval context.

I don’t think that typically a lead game designer comes into a project with the goal of creating a mediocre, or an average product, especially in the very competitive and demanding field of MMO design. They all want to create something special, something that gamers will remember and talk about for the rest of their lives. Every MMO developer wants their MMO to be the one that all other MMO’s are compared to.

It is about more than just commercial success, it is about creating something magical, and for me, it is about creating something meaningful. It is about creating an alternate universe that impacts your real universe in a positive way. Some day I will likely write an article about MMO addiction, a real issue in the industry, something which has been discussed, but not really dealt with. I would want to create an MMO that is addictive, without being destructive.

For many Darkfall Online was all about dreaming, all about what they really wanted an MMO to be. Well for me, these are “the givens”, the foundational principles that I would want my dream MMO to be based on. I think every successful MMO meets, or at least endeavours to meet, in some way, these four objectives: taking into account the way “real” gamers play MMO’s, making room for all kinds of players, creating a dynamic environment, and creating a game from which their clients can derive something that affects their life in a positive way.

In this edition of DFO Tips and Tricks we’ll be looking at the passive defense skills that are available in Darkfall, what they do, and what may be the best ways to level them if you are a new or solo player

To the right you’ll see the list of passive defense skills and their description in order of importance. All passive defense skills can be found in the general tab of the skills list.

Rigor – Directly adds protection to all the player’s defenses.

Ignore pain – Reduces all damage caused by a weapons damage modifier. Can be purchased from an advanced fighter trainer once rigor is level 75.

Reflex – Reduces damage inflicted by all elemental schools of magic. Does not add protection, but adds a chance to ignore/negate some elemental damage

Defense – Reduces all physical damage. Does not add directly to protection, but adds a chance to ignore/negate some physical damage

Fortitude – Adds a chance to ignore/negate some affects of debuff spells

Constitution- Adds a chance to ignore/negate some affects of poison type attacks

Willpower – Adds a chance to ignore/negate some affects Arcane damage

How to level

In order to level these skills, a player is required to be hit either by mobs or players with the corresponding affect. For example, to level defense a player must be hit by physical damage. Each hit, regardless of the amount of damage or severity, levels a skill by the same amount, e.g. getting hit for 1 damage levels the skill by the same amount as getting hit for 100. Each tick from a skill, that is the damage done each second by a damage of time skill, will also add to a players skill level. For this reason, it is best to find mobs or players that hit for the lowest amount of damage possible, but able to maintain hits for long periods of time.

Rigor and Ignore Pain are the primary skills all players want to level and both skills are leveled by taking various types of damage. It is important to note that while having 100 rigor (max level) does help, it does not make a player impervious or god like. I have 80 rigor and I only have an extra .64 protection to physical and .39 protection to magic.

To level either of these skills “quickly,” I say “quickly” because you can’t really level rigor to 100 in under ten hours, there are a few mobs in the game that will hit a player many times in a short period of time while doing very little damage. These mobs, in order of effectiveness along with the strategy, are:

Brownies – Move into the spawn and rest. Constantly watch your health and be sure to heal.

Hivekin – Stay out of melee range and get into a position to where they cast spells to hit you i.e. on top of a bolder or tree. Once in this position rest and let them hit you with their spell.

Goblins – Stay in melee range and let them hit you with their swords/axes. This will also level defense, and parry should you use it. Best place to level rigor when just start off, but slower than hivekin and brownies

The location of some of these mobs spawn points is below. You can find more by visiting DF Atlas or Sinister Map (best map)

The below post is my results of my investigation of the political alliance between the now defunct Carebare alliance, precariously known as Dusk, and the Collation of the Chillin.This research took about two weeks to compile the data, get in touch with most parties involved, and perform the meta analysis needed to come up with the below information. It was oringally posted on the darkfall clan disucssion forums 06-03-2009 and contains some of the information that could, not taking credit for anything here just saying the same information was avaible to the eneimes of this alliance, have lead to both alliances spliting up.

Disclaimer:For this project I had an idea of why CC and TCA are allied and preconceived Theory that I was crafting. I’m not claiming to be unbiased, but please be aware that I had talked to people before the PMs as well which gave weight to this theory.

As you may or may not know, I’ve been investigating the true relationship and intentions behind the TCA and CC pact for about a week now. I’ve been given information by players from inside the CC alliance, ex-members of what was Dusk alliance, people from the outside looking in, leadership from the TCA alliance. I couldn’t get ahold of WoOpin and Reckin for comment, etc as you can see below. Due to all the information I have, this post will probably be shorter than expected because people can read the information presented from themselves.

Note: Anything edited out of the screen shots is to keep the person anonymous at his/her request. When possible, I have verified the information with said individual. Also, since I’m a single person, I have to share the info with the community. I hope that this information doesn’t get anyone discovered and I’ve edited the SS the best I could. If you are discovered I’m very sorry and will compensate you in any way I can.

Interview over TS with Lost Logic:

The condition of the agreement was that a siege NAP between DUSK and CC would be set in plac to prevent both alliances from fighting two front wars. Out side of siegeing, people PvP against each other. Essentially, it naturally evolved due to wanting to keep cities and having friends in real life being part of each alliance. WoOpin is the reason why CC + TCA pact works together so much and had been CC’s biggest advocate.

Meta Analysis
The relationship between TCA and CC actually evolved quite naturally, at least on the surface. At the time, Dusk was an all Alfar alliance who wished to turn Ruby into a Alfar island paradise to promote Aflar collectivism and security, much like Hyperion but more benign. AC happened to be an all Alfar clan at the time and were actually invited to join Dusk, but declined. From there, as mentioned above, CC and Dusk remained friendly throughout beta and into the present. What cinched the relationship was essentially a need for security. Neither CC nor TCA wanted to fight multiple front wars and at the time of the first siege agreement, both had a mutual enemy in Murder Herd. In time, this benevolent relationship grew to what we see today, which essentially is a No Siege NAP between the two alliances and they come together to fight mutual enemies.

Theory-Craft
However, as mentioned above, both Imperial Rule and Vindicators have been a little more than friends with CC. Imperial Rule was formally helped by CC in an attack to get a city, while WoOpin from Vindicators has been a strong advocate for the CC agenda. As Lost Logic stated, without WoOpin CC and TCA may not be as closely tied as they currently, but because the current friendship is mutually beneficial, doesn’t see anything wrong with it. Although its not in my notes, during the vent interview I got the impression that he believed that it may have happened anyways and wasn’t really worried about it.

Furthermore, based on screen shots provided by Valkyrior, one of the leaders of BB4L, it appears that at least WoOpin and other TCA clans (how else would he have the SS?) had access to AC’s private irc channel

And more to come from older dates

Too bad i have more ss showing Dusk/Cotc are one alliance disguised as two united for opportunistic reasons,

I really feel sorry for Vindies since we were in Dust the rulers of Vindicators were sidetracked and even quit the game leaving woopin to go along with this carebear plan.

Therefore, it is my opinion that CC has played the political meta game decently. WoOpin comes off as a CC plant, and given CC’s/Goon’s extensive spy history, may not be far from the truth. He has pushed TCA to help CC in numerous incidents and has had a direct influence on TCA politics/policy. However, this influence would be minimal had it not been for the rest of the TCA inner council’s approval. Which brings us to Imperial Rule’s role in the whole process. I’m not accusing Imperial Rule of having or being a CC plant because I have no evidence of it. Yet, CC helped them attack and attain a city. This is known by the community and has been noted on the political maps of the past. What I am getting at though is that IR has reasons to promote CC agenda’s in the TCA alliance. With two lead guilds, it wouldn’t be hard to convince the remaining leaders that helping CC is the right thing to do.

TL;DR Summary
The relationship between TCA grew quite naturally. It steamed from the desire to secure holdings, promote Alfar collectivism, and wanting security. However, two lead guilds in the TCA alliance – Vindicators and Imperial Rule, pushed for TCA to help CC WoOpin being the main advocate of the CC agenda. Therefore, the relationship between the two alliances is somewhat skewed toward TCA helping CC more than CC helps TCA, at least it appears that way.

Edit:
Special thanks to all my sources, especially Lost Logic for going on the record

We’ve tested the expansion thoroughly for weeks but there’s bound to be some problems. We’ll be on standby to fix them as soon as they appear. We’ve just discovered a small issue with the Weather System which we can’t fix before the expansion comes out so we’ll have to patch it in in the next couple of days. Everything else has been included into the expansion as planned.

We’ll keep you posted. Thank you for your patience during the downtime.

And then another post

We’d like to explain the long delay we’re experiencing with the expansion:

We knew this was going to be a long process, but it’s taking even longer than anticipated. It’s due to the procedure for building the expansion which is a time consuming and repetitive operation. We’ve experienced a few setbacks during the process which have added to the building time.

This needs to be done right in order to minimize any further issues and we appreciate your patience while we’re grinding away at this. As for an ETA, it could take a few more minutes or several more hours before we’re done, it’s impossible to estimate precisely. We’re on the verge of being ready for hours now, and this is why we haven’t posted anything until now.

Thanks again for your patience.

Says a lot about the company. Good thing I pay to play the game, not because I like the company

Today we’ll get a first look at the expansion promised by AV. Copied directly from the expansion list below are some of the most exciting additions this game will see. You can expect full break down of this new system once our staff is able to test it out for themselves. You can see the full expansion details here

Player Housing

This has been one of the most requested features since we announced Darkfall and it’s now in the game. You can now own a house on any one of hundreds of hidden locations around Agon, on small secluded islands, in the desert of Rubaiyat, the frozen wastes of Niflheim, the deep jungles of Yssam. You can find house deeds in treasure chests, on monsters, or you can buy them from other players and use them to claim your house.

Houses offer house recall and can be upgraded to offer you benefits such as the capability of sharing your house with friends, the option of having a harvestable garden or a private workbench, and much more. Many feature an open window you can use to trade through more safely. You can decorate your house with numerous status symbols that you can find or earn. These range from fine paintings and hunting trophies, to chairs, tables and chandeliers.

This is just the first stage of the Darkfall Player Housing system. Over the coming weeks and months we will expand heavily on this system by adding many new and important features, new rare upgrades like for example more house slots, new decorations, and more house types. Of course this is Darkfall so housing is more than just a player home, its part of a much larger system:

The Village System

Player housing is tied in with the village system. Groups of houses make up a village. The Village System introduces many dynamic small scale PvP hotspots that clans can compete to control. The individual house ownership doesn’t actually change but the village itself generates tax for its owner. Holding one or more villages generates direct gold income, potentially earning your clan thousands of gold every hour.

Four times a day all villages go vulnerable during which time they can either be reclaimed by their owner or taken over by another clan. Every six hours Darkfall turns into a no-holds barred deathmatch for control over villages and their taxes. This new feature gives every clan the opportunity to score strategic victories and to gain considerable income by protecting their holdings or taking over someone else’s.

Clan City Crafter Income

Whenever someone uses a crafting station in a city you own, a small gold bonus is added to a pool. Your clan bank will get money from this pool periodically during the course of the day. This adds more incentive to own holdings and perform all crafting operations in your own city or hamlet.

Darkfall’s Weather System

The new Darkfall Weather system is extremely sophisticated and it simulates a real world weather system. Some of the weather effects you’ll be seeing include rain, wind, variable cloud cover, fog etc. depending on the season and local conditions. Other than enhancing the beauty of the world and player immersion, the weather can affect visibility, making it a tactical ally or an enemy depending on the situation.

Title Quests

Title quests give you huge gold and item rewards and more importantly – a title. Your title gives you a boost in certain attributes depending on the title’s type. If you go down the Intelligence line of quests for example, you gain titles that boost your intelligence. You may have several titles and you can switch between them once a day activating different bonuses depending on your needs.

Skill & Spell Books

These extremely rare drops may arm even a new character with deadly spells and skills should he be so lucky as to get his hands on one of them. The skill and spell books have no requirement to use so if you’re lucky enough to come into possession of the Book of Volcano, you’ll instantly learn that spell and can use it immediately provided you have the proper reagents in your backpack. If you already have the spell you can read the book and get a boost in your proficiency.Skill and Spell books cannot raise your proficiency past a beginner level of the skill and spell in question. If your proficiency level is over the limit, you won’t be able to use the book, but you could sell it, or give it to a friend.

Skill & Spell books can help new players get into the game faster and older ones to get a significant boost in their less developed skills and spells.

Special Attribute consumables

Attribute consumables are new rare drops that can help bridge the gap between you and your mortal enemies. These edibles will give you a permanent increase in attributes up to a medium level. They provide an excellent option for newer characters to catch up to everyone else and for adventurers to find new valuable items for sale on the open market.

Random Treasure Chests

Explorers can now find random treasure chests scattered all over Agon. They may hold rare loot like house deeds, spell books, gold, runestones, sithras, rare ores, keys, attribute consumables and much more.

The Nexus System

The Nexus System is a dynamic tactical transportation system. You can manually spawn an entrance portal and then you go and spawn the exit to it. There’s a limited number of people that can use each one of these portals, they can be destroyed, and they also stay open for a limited time. Only one can be active per person. It can be used by anyone, friend or foe. The owner gets a message about who went through his portal, also when it’s attacked and when it’s destroyed and by whom.
